The origin of Rouleete can be traced back to more than a thousand years long ago. It comes originally French and 'Roule' is the British translation. It is generally a town in central France that is deeply located in the region of Bourgogne however, it is not, perhaps, the first or last town in this type of geographically identified region that is most well known to history as Rouleete. This kind of town isn't the only one of this geographically defined region that is easily identifiable to the past. But, it is the most important and most famous.

Rouleete's beginnings can be traced back to the middle age, when it was home to Carlin the courtier of repute writer, and writer who was married to wealthy parents. He spent many hours traveling through the powerful Bourgogne region that included Rouleete. This was done to aid his family. It is likely, then, that he came in contact with the French language and, in the process was able to create some of the words that are commonly used by Rouleete to describe the town today. The "foreign" influence could eventually lead to the creation of terms that would later become synonymous with Rouleete today.

As discussed above one of the most well-known expressions that refers to Rouleete can be found in a popular tune that pays tribute to the town. Jean Sibelius wrote the song "Roustoles", which describes a variety of sights as well as sounds and activities that can be found within the region. One of the most popular cannes in Rouleete has been described as the "little city on the top of a hill" as heard in the lyrics to the original tune. The cannes are described as being situated on a hill and have many cobbled streets that lead to their entrance. They have earned the nickname "Capon de Cannes". Although it is not known which the origins of this name was, many people still associate the canne with this region.

An old map showing the exact location of first townships that were built in the early eighteenth century is another popular expression that refers to Rouleete. The original cities included Pays de la Loire and Chateauneuf-en-Auxois. These cannes are considered to be a part of Rouleete's landscape. They can be located along major roads that start in Roulechette and continue until Du Midi. Some of these streets have names that remain synonymous with Rouleete: Pays de la Loire for "the little town on a hill", Chateauneuf-en-Auxois for "the old city on a hill" and Du Midi for "the road to Midi".

Legend has it that Rouleete was founded by Labard, an individual who gave Mathieu an item which would give him happiness. The present was put on the tree by Mathieu after she returned home. Simon de Rouleete, her husband, arrived to collect the gift. Upon learning that the gift was stolen, Mathieu retrieved a knife from his bag and cut off the top of the knife which was engraved with the husband's name. In anger, Simon de Rouleete went into exile. According to one legend, the knife that caused the separation between the two was so large that it could only be cut by means of a large knife. According to legend the knife's splitting symbolized the separation of love in Rouleete.

Today, the Rouleete Board of Directors tries to dispel negative impressions of the town by building a number of monuments to celebrate its history.
